Pendulums are always a fascinating experiment for pupils and have a very special place in the history of Physics. Often though they are difficult to adjust and set and over time their swings often become eliptical due to the limits of the holding mechanisms.

This kit includes 10 pendulum holders and pendulums to enable a whole class to easily and efficiently investigate all the behaviour of pendulums in great detail.

  • We use a double string (bifilar) approach to ensure the pendulum can only swing along one plane.

  • The string is a strong waxed thread which is unlikely to snap. At 1.5m long this allows lengths of around 70cm which is ideal for standard use above the desk.

  • The pendulum are lead free, painted and have their masses labelled on them.

  • The holders use a wing nut to adjust the friction holding the thread, in seconds and with minimal effort any length can be chosen and locked in.

  • The ends of the holder are rounded to comfortably fit a wide range of clamp stands.

  • For senior work we’ve rounded both ends of the holder to allow you to use 2 clampstands to hold both ends and hang the pendulum between two desks. If you replace the thread with a longer one you can comfortably extend the range to 1.5m or more without any climbing or wall fixings.
