Mystery Circuit Boxes
This is a set of 12 wooden boxes that have unknown circuits concealed inside them.
Pupils are asked to play the role of electrician and use a simple conductivity testing circuit of a battery and bulb to work out how the different wires are actually connected inside.
Each box has 10 coloured wires allowing for many possible combinations and there are 6 different circuits for pupils to solve.
The set of 12 allows for a class of 20 pupils to work through them with a couple of spares to minimise any time spent waiting.
This is a great easy to differentiate task that pupils find surprisingly engaging as the wiring often catches out assumptions the pupils make.
Solutions and pupil template available here in photos.
Full class set fits comfortable in standard racking trays and each one is a good size for handling.
